Meet Zion's new Cantor, Emily Solomon
Today, after much prayer, and after considering several candidates, Zion is pleased to introduce our new Cantor, Miss Emily Solomon. Emily is currently pursuing dual Master of Music degrees in Church Music and Early Keyboard Instruments at the University of Michigan. In 2014, she completed a Master of Arts in Music Research at Western Michigan University with a thesis on the Geistliches Gesangbuchlein of Johann Walther, Martin Luther's Kantor.
While at WMU, Emily received the School of Music's Graduate Award for Excellence in Leadership/Service, was inducted to Pi Kappa Lambda and Phi Alpha Theta honor societies, and was appointed as the School of Music Tutor. She graduated from Lutheran High School Westland in 2008 and is a member of Guardian Lutheran in Dearborn. In addition to her work at Zion, Emily is also the executive director of the Academy of Early Music in Ann Arbor.
Prior to Zion, she was a frequent substitute organist at Lutheran churches in the Detroit area, beginning with Christ Lutheran (River Rouge) at the age of 14. Emily studies organ and harpsichord with Kola Owolabi and Joseph Gascho, respectively.
In addition to playing regularly for Zion, Emily is interested in reestablishing our Zion Festival Choir. If you're interested in singing in the choir, please let Emily know.
Please take a minute to introduce yourself to Emily, and to make her feel welcome. She will be installed as Cantor of Zion during the Mass next week.
It is in thanksgiving to God, and with great joy, that Zion welcomes Emily Solomon as our Cantor
